Role: Climate Change Practice Lead

Summary

This is an exciting role to establish ESDO’s new Climate Change Practice to provide clients (governments, international organisations and other non-profits in the humanitarian aid and development sector) with expert environmental, biodiversity, climate change mitigation/reduction and low-carbon development services.

This role will establish the Climate Change Practice including designing services, mobilising expertise and delivering consultancy services for clients. The role will work closely with the CEO and Board, receiving high level support and guidance to succeed. Both you and the practice needs to be an ambassador for ESDO’s values on climate change and so its mission is to design world leading carbon reduction strategies for the humanitarian aid and development sector.

To be successful in this role, you will be a well-rounded expert on environmental sustainability strategies, biodiversity and climate change, preferably with relevant tertiary qualifications. Critically, you will have a background in consulting or demonstrated entrepreneurial and management skills – preferably with experience in market-entry of new services and/or winning projects in a new business unit.

 

The Role 

This role will establish and run ESDO’s new Climate Change Practice inside ESDO’s Consulting Unit. Working closely with the CEO and Board, the role will help to design and deliver services and projects that increase biodiversity, reduce and mitigate climate change and enhance environmental sustainability. The responsibilities of the role will include:

Corporate Development (30% of time)

  • Design the Climate Change Practice’s service offerings including best practice methodologies and innovative techniques
  • Mobilise talent, initially through identifying and attracting key consultants
  • Identify and screen implementing and consortium partners
  • Conduct and publish unique research outputs
  • Create the Climate Change Practice’s value proposition
  • Build any required internal systems 
  • Content writing for online properties including website and social media
  • Assist with a range of practice and corporate administrative tasks including but not limited to recruitment processes, software selection, expenses and corporate service development
  • Participate in continuous professional development processes

Fundraising (50% of time)

  • Build close relationships with prime contractors, donors and clients to become the preferred partner on all things climate change.
  • Identify opportunities, conduct pre-proposal research and position ESDO for a successful response
  • Attend donor and partner meetings
  • Be an ambassador for ESDO’s values on climate change
  • Identify partners and consultants for potential projects
  • Marketing activity such as blog posts, website updates and press releases
  • Representation at fundraising meetings, presentations and virtual events 

Project Management (20% of time)

  • End-to-end management of Climate Change Practice projects using corporate project management processes and systems  

 

Requirements

A successful candidate will meet the following requirements:

  • Previous consulting experience and/or demonstrated entrepreneurial skill set and/or have built a new business unit before
  • Demonstrated previous success in business development
  • Tertiary qualifications in environmental sustainability, climate change mitigation/adaptation, biodiversity, ecology or similar
  • Complete native fluency in written and spoken English
  • Understanding of the humanitarian aid and development sector

     

    Engagement Terms

    This is an initial 12 month contract with an opportunity for extension.

    The fee range for this role is up to USD66,000 per year. This position is also eligible for Profit Share payments in accordance with the ESDO Profit Share Policy.

    This is a remote homeworking consultant position.

    This position is vacant now with an expected start date in April 2023.
