Role: Sahel Research Coordinator – Francophone

Summary

This is an exciting role conducting research on some of the most challenging issues in the humanitarian aid and development sector. You will be contributing to an exciting pipeline of research projects across the Sahel. The role requires someone with deep field research experience in Francophone speaking countries and must be based in the Sahel. The candidate should be highly motivated by working on social justice issues such as climate change, migration, human trafficking and equality. 

 

The Role 

This role will help to design and deliver research projects on all of our six missions in the Sahel, with an initial focus on climate change and modern slavery. This role is a consultant position engaged for assignments on day rates. The responsibilities of assignments will differ but will likely include:

Research

  • Leading research fieldwork in the Sahel including recruiting and training field teams, coordinating data collection and monitoring performance and data quality
  • Assisting in the development of research projects including research questions, lines of enquiry, mixed methods designs and research tool development. 
  • Conducting background research
  • Data collection, both qualitative and quantitative
  • Translation of materials between English and French
  • Data quality assurance, normalisation, cleaning and preparation
  • Assisting in the analysis and collation of qualitative data
  • High quality writing of research reports to academic publication standard
  • Assist with client communication and management 

Fundraising (10% of time)

  • Presenting research findings to local donors and stakeholders
  • Attending donor and partner meetings
  • Identifying partners and consultants for potential projects
  • Advising on the design of methodologies for several types of project proposals including research projects, evaluation projects and program design projects 

    Corporate Support (5% of time)

    • Content writing for online properties including website and social media
    • Participating in continuous professional development processes 

     

    Requirements

    A successful candidate will meet the following requirements:

    • Complete fluency in written and spoken English and French
    • 5 years field-based research experience
    • Based in the Sahel
    • Knowledge of research principles

      This position is a remote consultant role, paid on day rates agreed for each assignment.
